tranzmetro performance
I discovered a secret squirrel announcement on the TranzMetro website yesterday while looking for delays. It details a free travel day on Friday 26 February and a 5% discount on March Monthly and Quarterly passes. This is to apologise for the delays that were experienced by train commuters last week.
While on the site, I also discovered that TranzMetro are keeping (or attempting to keep) performance information. The target is 95% of services arriving and leaving within 3 minutes of the scheduled time. I assume the averages are for all services. It would be interesting to see what they are for peak times as I have never ever been on time at my destination. The express is supposed to take 50 minutes but it usually arrives in a little over 60 minutes in either direction. So a 0% average from the stats I’m keeping.

they often meet the KPI 95% of servies do depart within 3 min of schedule… the fact they stop 25m away from the station and sit there for 20 min doesn’t count… they left the station on time

You forget the arriving part. If the train arrives late then it can’t leave on the scheduled time.

Not sure why you say “secret squirrel” annoucement. Its been was a news story in The Dom aswell as a 1/4 page paid ad on Wedensday. It also been covered by Radio NZ and Stuff websites, since Tuesday when the annoucement was first made.
As for timekeeping, with the amount of work going on and the spped restrictions past buildign sites, along with extensive associated bus replacements, I’d be surprised if anything is running exactly to time. The handling of two major failures lats week was poor, no question of that, but peple seem to be slacking them off for every little delay now and not taking into account just what is happening with rail in Wellington at present.

Hi Grant
To be honest, my newspaper reading is nil. All of my news is via RSS and it was probably missed by me. Also, the link is on the main TranzMetro page so not so secret :)
I’ve been catching the train for over a year now and it has never been on time in either direction. Yes, there’s work going on in the guise of improvements but I call this maintenance. If you don’t upkeep your infrastructure then that’s your fault. I understand that there is new ownership and it is not the current owner’s fault we are in this mess.
There is a difference between speed restrictions and completely stopping.
I believe that if you don’t bitch and moan then how will service improve? Although, you will never stop people from complaining regardless of how good things are. For example, and this is my opinion only, the trains in Sydney are awesome. There’s always a train when you want it and they are always on time. Yet, people still complain.
